What Earned Leave is
Earned Leave is leave credited to the leave account under the CCS (Leave) Rules and may be granted by the competent authority subject to admissibility and service requirements.
Leave is not automatic
Even where leave is due in the account, leave is granted by the competent authority. Employees should obtain sanction before proceeding except where emergency procedures apply.
Leave salary
During admissible Earned Leave, leave salary is governed by the CCS (Leave) Rules and is generally linked to the pay drawn immediately before proceeding on leave.
Accumulation and credit
The number of days credited, maximum accumulation and special provisions can depend on the employee's category and service conditions. Verify the current leave account rather than calculating solely from memory.
Earned Leave with LTC
Government rules permit encashment of Earned Leave in connection with LTC subject to prescribed conditions and overall limits. This is separate from reimbursement of travel fare.
Retirement encashment
Leave encashment at retirement is governed by separate provisions and limits under the CCS (Leave) Rules. It should not be confused with the smaller encashment facility linked to LTC.
Check your leave account
Before applying, verify the balance in the official leave account/e-HRMS or establishment record and resolve discrepancies before the planned leave date.
