What a pension slip tells you
A pension slip is a payment-period document. It generally helps the pensioner understand how the amount credited for a particular month was built from pension components, relief, arrears, recoveries, tax or other adjustments. It is not the same thing as the PPO, which is the pension authority itself.
Use the slip when checking a monthly credit, explaining pension income, understanding a changed payment, or documenting a discrepancy before raising a request.
How to download a pension slip

- Choose the correct month and year.
- Open or download the generated PDF.

How to read the important fields
| Field | What it generally represents | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| PPO / pension identifier | The pension record linked to the payment | Your current PPO/corrigendum |
| Basic pension | The base pension amount applicable for the period | The sanctioned pension and effective date |
| Dearness Relief | Relief calculated at the applicable notified rate | Relevant period and eligible basic pension |
| Arrears | Past-period amount paid in the current cycle | The months/effective date to which arrears relate |
| Commutation/recovery | Adjustment related to commutation or another authorised recovery | PPO and applicable recovery period |
| Tax/TDS | Income-tax deduction where applicable | Annual tax information and Form 16 |
| Other deductions | Any other authorised deduction displayed | The description and supporting order |
| Net pension | The final amount payable after additions and deductions | The actual bank credit |
Why the amount can change from one month to another
A changed credit is not automatically an error. Compare the current slip with the previous month. Differences can arise from Dearness Relief changes, arrears, revision effects, tax deductions, recovery, commutation-related adjustments or another authorised correction.
- Compare basic pension.
- Compare DR.
- Check whether arrears appeared only once.
- Compare deductions and tax.
- Check the net amount against the bank credit.
If a month's pension slip is missing
- Confirm you selected the correct month and year.
- Check whether the payment cycle has completed and the document has been generated.
- Look for a revised document or later correction.
- Try the download in another current browser.
- Allow official-site pop-ups if the PDF opens in a new window.
- If the bank credit exists but the slip remains unavailable, raise a targeted request naming the exact month.
A useful request says: “July 2026 pension was credited on [date], but the July 2026 pension slip is unavailable in the document list.” That is much easier to act on than “pension slip not working.”
If the slip amount does not match the bank credit
- Confirm that you are comparing the same payment month.
- Check whether the bank entry includes more than one pension-related credit.
- Read the net pension figure, not only the basic pension.
- Check any arrears or recovery displayed.
- Save the bank-credit proof and pension slip.
- Raise a service request with the expected and actual amount if the difference remains unexplained.
If a field looks wrong
| What looks wrong | Check first | Likely next route |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pension | PPO/corrigendum and effective date | Pension-record/revision request |
| DR | Applicable period and underlying basic pension | Payment/revision query |
| Bank details | Current registered pension account | Bank-account update if the record itself is wrong |
| Name or identity | Authoritative pension record | Profile/record correction |
| Tax deduction | Annual taxable pension and tax documents | Tax/Form 16 review |
Pension slip versus other documents
| Document | Main purpose |
|---|---|
| PPO/ePPO | Records the pension sanction and entitlement. |
| Pension slip | Explains a particular payment period. |
| Annual pension statement | Summarises a larger period, usually useful for yearly review. |
| Form 16 | Tax/TDS certificate for the relevant financial year where applicable. |
| Pension certificate | May be used as a certificate of pension depending on the requesting institution. |
Printing and sharing safely
Keep downloaded slips in a secure folder. Before sending a slip to a private institution, check whether the full PPO, bank account or other identifiers need to remain visible. Do not post pension slips publicly or send them to an unknown support number.
Frequently asked questions
Is a pension slip the same as a PPO?
No. The PPO is the pension authority; the pension slip explains a particular payment period.
Why is the latest pension slip not visible?
The document may not yet have been generated, the wrong month may be selected, or there may be a portal/document issue.
Why is net pension lower than basic pension plus DR?
Check deductions, tax, recoveries and other adjustments shown on the slip.
What if the bank credit is different from the slip?
Verify the payment month, net amount and any multiple credits, then raise a targeted request if the difference remains.
Can a pension slip be used as proof of income?
It may be useful, but the receiving institution decides which document and period it accepts.
Where should I check arrears?
Look for the arrears component and compare it with the effective period and any revision order.
Why did TDS appear in one month?
Review the tax figures for the financial year and the related Form 16/annual tax information.
Should I upload my full pension slip to an unknown helper?
No. Pension slips contain sensitive identifiers and should be shared only when genuinely required.
