1. Current DR rate
DoP&PW OM dated 24 April 2026 enhanced DR from 58% to 60% of basic pension/family pension, including additional pension/additional family pension, with effect from 1 January 2026. Armed Forces pensioners/family pensioners are expressly covered.
2. Simple example
If eligible basic pension is ₹30,000, DR at 60% is ₹18,000. Gross of those two elements is ₹48,000 before other authorised additions, deductions or adjustments.
3. DR is separate from basic pension
A DR increase changes monthly payment but does not itself revise the basic pension shown in the PPO.
4. Payment instructions
The 24 April 2026 OM directs authorised pension disbursing banks and other authorities to arrange payment on the basis of the order without waiting for further instructions.
5. Rounding
The OM states that a fraction of a rupee in DR is rounded to the next higher rupee.
6. Re-employment needs a separate check
Defence Pension Regulations contain specific conditions and exceptions governing DR during re-employment. Do not assume DR must always stop or always continue.
7. If DR is missing
Check the basic pension, month concerned, applicable DR rate and payment statement. If the basic pension itself is wrong, handle that separately.
8. Future changes
Do not treat 60% as permanent. Update only when a later official Government DR order is issued.
