Formula used
Indicative service pension = 50% × the more beneficial of last drawn reckonable emoluments or the 10-month average.
This reflects the current DESW headline rule. Actual pension can be affected by applicable pension regulations, minimum pension, notional fixation, OROP tables, rank/group, qualifying service and later revision orders.
Who should use this
Use this only for a quick defence service-pension estimate where the basic reckonable-emoluments rule is relevant. Do not use it as an OROP table calculator or to predict a revised PPO.
Important limitation
The official DESW page also states the normal minimum qualifying service is 20 years for Commissioned Officers and 15 years for Personnel Below Officer Rank, subject to the applicable regulations and exceptions. The calculator does not decide qualifying service.
