15-year rule
Pension Regulations for the Army Part I state that the commuted portion is restored after 15 years.
Which starting date should you use?
If commutation was notified simultaneously with pension, restoration may be reckoned from the retirement/discharge date. If reduction in pension started later, the 15 years is reckoned from the date on which the reduction due to commutation became effective.
Do not guess from the lump-sum credit date
Use the effective date shown in the PPO or pension payment record where available. If the date is unclear, obtain clarification from the pension authority/payment system before relying on the calculator.
